INITIAL SKETCHES

MOODBOARD

• This look was inspired by a heart shaped woven basket I found at a thrift store, which led me to create a Queen of Hearts inspired ensemble

• I cut the bottom of the basket and separated the heart shaped arches to create the foundation of the garment

• Painted each piece red to give the look a bold and dramatic finish

• Upcycled black material by cutting it into strips and weaving it through the basket to create a checkerboard pattern

• Added upcycled checker pieces from my dad’s old set to further emphasize the checkerboard illusion

CRAFTING THE SKIRT

ATTACHING THE HEART ARCHES WITH PLAYING CARDS

ADDING HEART STRING LIGHTS

• Started with a basic muslin skirt featuring a zipper closure as the foundation

• Hot glued playing cards across the entire skirt, ensuring no muslin was visible

• Attached the heart shaped arches using cardboard, hot glue, and duct tape exaggerate the hips

• Covered the edges of the arches with playing cards for a cohesive finish

• Added hanging playing cards inside the arches to create a playful, dimensional effect

• Incorporated heart shaped string lights to complement the ensemble and push the look further into avant garde territory

LACING REINFORCEMENT

BASIC BODICE COMPLETE

LACING DETAILING

• Constructed the top using multiple layers of trash bags for added durability
• Created three layers of playing cards along the edges to reinforce the lacing and prevent the trash bags from tearing
• Applied a diagonal playing card pattern along each side of the top, with a horizontal pattern across the center
• Finished the top by hot gluing the checkerboard detail onto the garment
